Dragon Quilt Encapsulates Childhood Favourites into Useable Art with Function

I love to create quilts. Although they are time consuming to make and assemble, I simply take any theme or memory in creating the quilt and use as much scrap fabric I have available making the quilt a memory in its very existence assembled with a nostalgic trip down memory lane depending on the fabrics used. This process makes the best use small pieces of fabric that could otherwise end up in the trash.

My daughter had a great love of dragons in her early teenage years and also had a variety of fandoms she followed. I created my own version of popular characters, added a few of my own creations and came up with one very interesting quilt using a variety of fabrics, laces, textures and embellishments. It’s a tactile treasure and pays homage to a part of my daughter’s childhood and my sewing portfolio history.

I love the process of creating this memory for my daughter and have found quilting to be a very rewarding way to express myself through my art.

Creative Mrs. Clause Costume Makes Holiday Party Host Full of Christmas Cheer

.I had the good fortune of meeting lovely Paula who hosts Christmas every year but this year she wanted something different to wear for this festive occasion. She came to me requesting a uniquely designed, and Mrs. Clause inspired Christmas Costume.

She had shared a number of costume ideas with me with a preference to using a white boa in her design. She also wanted grommet lacing in the back. Although she wanted to look stunning, she also wanted to be able to move around comfortably in her costume as she would be hosting a party and needed to be able to serve her guest with ease.

We worked collaboratively with her ideas eventually creating a custom Mrs. Clause costume that not only was a real eye stopper, but also easy to move in making it an ideal creation for her hosting duties and a candy treat to look at.

I’ve certainly done some interesting work in my 8 years as a Costume Designer and also created some very unique costumes for some challenging forms.

This costume though is one of  the most unusual and challenging costumes I’ve ever created. I was approached by the founder of the Oneball Charitable Cancer Organization to create a male stripper style costume for their mascot.

This large creation took up almost the entirety of my living room but after putting him on a dress form it made creating for him much more manageable!

I was very happy with the final result of my endeavours and look forward to seeing him entirely animated at the Taboo Sex Show here in Calgary – November 22-25 th.
